My art is about playing with materials in an abstractive way. This is my reaction to the world around me. My emotions are expressed through the colors, shapes, lines and textures.

I first start with creating small mixed media collaged abstractions. I use my pieces of hand painted or printed papers in a playful way focusing on composition. Sometimes lines or shapes reflect poetry or objects. I often start with an idea or feeling that turns into words or visual elements. Once the papers are completed, I cut them up and put them back together in interesting compositions.

Next, for my fiber pieces, I take a finished mixed media piece and turn it into a pattern. From here I cut out the matching material pieces and sew them back together like a puzzle. I always improvise some along the way.

This process goes full circle. While the creation of the mixed media papers is fast, loose and therapeutic, the collage of the papers and the sewing of the fabric is more of a meditative process.
